Join us for an educational afternoon of oil painting with local artist, Jonelle Summerfield! -----
In this workshop, you will learn the importance of perspective as it relates to painting buildings and street scenes.
Jonelle will discuss perspective lines, composition, lighting, and subject matter as you work through the different stages of completing an 11" x 14" canvas painting.

When, where, and how much?
This class will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at The Artists Hand Gallery and Espresso Bar, located at 732 Philadelphia Street, Indiana, PA.
Class is 10am to 3pm with a one-hour lunch break from Noon to 1pm. Feel free to bring something along, dine in at the gallery, or explore Downtown Indiana.
The cost is $70 for IAA Members and $85 for non-members.
Please note, the sign-up deadline is Monday, April 13, 2026. No refunds will be issued after this date.
There is free and metered parking in the lot behind the gallery.

What supplies do I need?
Jonelle will provide your canvas.
You will need to bring the following:
Recommended Oils: Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Light, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Sap Green, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Phthalo Green, Transparent Red Oxide* (note this color is very important), Gamblin Portland Grey Deep, and Paynes Grey
Recommended Brushes: Flat Synthetic #10, Flat Synthetic #6, Flat Synthetic #4, Filbert Bristle #4, Filbert Bristle #2
Other Items to Bring:
4B Sketching Pencil, Small Sketch Pad, Gamblin Gambol and Glass or Metal Washer, Paint Medium, Medium Length Metal Palette Knife, Portable Easel (the studio has many, but they may not be sturdy), Palette or Palette Paper, Spill-Proof Plastic Bin (to transport your brush water and medium - Gambol and paint mediums are toxic and flammable, so this may help prevent hazardous spills during transport), Plastic Gloves, Apron, Optional Extra 11" x 14" Canvas (toned grey), and your lunch!

About Jonelle Summerfield:
Jonelle Summerfield is an oil painter from Indiana, PA. She received a degree in Interior Design from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her mother, Jolene Joyner, became her first and most influential art teacher. While she worked as a kitchen designer, she honed her skills, taking workshops with artists she admired. She has taken workshops with Qiang Huang, Darren Kingsley, Kerry Dunn, and John Del Monte.
Jonelle’s art career began by selling work online and at the New Growth Arts Festival. From there, she branched out into online art galleries and has exhibited in Indiana, PA, Latrobe, PA, Ligonier, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, and New York, NY.
Her paintings are inspired by her travels near and far, her hobbies, domestic scenes, and her cats. The goal of her work is to depict the gold things in life to provide relief from a chaotic world.
