Working outdoors in the landscape is always inspiring. Each moment and every place is unique and beautiful. It is an excellent way to learn landscape painting technique and to triumph over creative issues while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow artists. To capture the landscape on canvas requires both awareness and skill. This in-person class will emphasize limited palette color theory, landscape composition, creative decisions and problem-solving, taught in a simple and direct manner with instructor demos and individual instruction.
Materials: Portable easel; Compose It grid 6 in 1 (available at Blick online); canvas boards, 8” x 10”; paper towels; odorless turpentine; cup for turpentine; wooden palette.
Brushes: half-dozen brushes, white bristle flat or filbert, size 2, 4, and 6; one medium-size palette knife; small pointed round brush for detail size 2–4.
Oil paints: Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Orange, Phthalo Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Raw Umber, large white (150mm). Be sure to buy pure Cadmium colors not Cadmium Hues.
Sun hat, old shirt and sturdy shoes are a must.
