About this Event

Instructor: Sharon Carol Demery

October 4–November 8 (6 Weeks, 18 Total Hours of Instruction)

AAC Art Studio

$250/270 + $10 mat. fee

Open yourself to discovering a way of painting where everything is allowed, and nothing is mandatory. Allow yourself the freedom to follow your instincts with color, line, form, and composition in your own spontaneous way. We will work on exercises and techniques to give you a place to start abstract compositions, with an emphasis on the joy of discovery and having fun along the way. We will do studies from some of the master abstract artists, such as Joan Mitchell, Hilma af Klint, Lee Krasner, Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, and Jackson Pollock, and learn about these important artists and how much they added to the world of art. You can follow along with the planned exercises or choose to work independently and receive individual instruction, and you can work on paintings as large or as small as you like.

Serious beginners with some painting experience and seasoned painters are very welcome. Experience the pure joy of playing with your own creativity and realize that you can produce exciting, unique abstract art.

Materials: Just gather what you can for the first class. Supplies can be ordered online as well. Amazon.com has LOTS of art supplies and is still fairly fast on delivery. We are going to work with what we have and make it creative and a lot of fun. Sometimes less actually is more!

Oil and/or Acrylic Paints: white, black, yellow, orange, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Viridian Green, or any colors you have on hand.

Brushes: basic set of brushes for oil or acrylic.

Other: Turpenoid; linseed oil for oil paint, water for acrylic; small containers to keep your solutions in; terry cloth rags or any rags available; canvas or canvas boards, any sizes you have; palette for oil or acrylic; easel or some place to set up your canvas; sketchbook; ruler; color pencils, felt-tip pens, or watercolors.

Some materials will be supplied by the instructor with the materials fee, payable directly to the instructor on the first day of class.
