The FDL Safety Council and FDL SHRM will be hosting a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE).CRASE is a nationally recognized training program designed to educate civilians on how to respond effectively during an active threat. It teaches practical, evidence-based strategies—Avoid, Deny, Defend—to improve personal safety and survivability. The program also emphasizes situational awareness, preparedness, and coordination with law enforcement during critical incidents.
Learning objectives:
Recognize the dynamics of active shooter events, including common behaviors, incident timelines, and how such situations typically unfold.
Apply the principles of “Avoid, Deny, Defend” to make informed decisions that increase personal safety and survivability during an active threat.
Identify strategies for situational awareness and emergency planning, including how to assess environments, recognize potential threats, and prepare effective response options.
Demonstrate appropriate actions for assisting law enforcement and first responders, including communication, medical considerations, and post-incident responsibilities.
