CSA Brig Gen Lloyd Tilghman graduated from West Point in 1836. Tilghman moved from Maryland and settled at Paducah with his family in 1852. Tighman was commissioned as a Colonel with the CSA on July 5, 1861. He was promoted to Brigadier General on October 18, 1861. Tilghman only fought in three battles before he was killed on the battlefield on May 16, 1863.
Abraham Lincoln won the Presidency in a four way contest. With his inauguration as a Republican in 1861, Southern States on the USA began to secede the Union. Lincoln won reelection in 1864 and the Union Army was victorious in their campaign during the American Civil War to preserve the Union. Lincoln was assassinated in April 1865. The Lincoln Funeral Train departed the Capitol with mourners turning out along the rail route finally reaching Springfield, IL on May 3, 1865.
