About this Event
DC’s unique local and national history as a city built and shaped by enslaved and free blacks (including one of the original surveyors), witnessed their first emancipation, pioneering education, and model organizing. Indeed, Washington DC severed as a magnate for aspiring African Americans, became a critical site of prominent Civil Rights marches, legislation and rulings, and now proudly shows and shares this amazing history and culture in the newest Smithsonian, the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Join Jeff Miller, the DC Cycling Concierge, and guide Lia Summers as they lead a memorable ride exploring some of the key sights and discussion investigating the progress and challenges DC has seen as African Americans have moved from shackles to a true shrine in the center of our nation’s capital. The ride will be at a casual / relaxed pace for 3 hours. Even longtime DC residents will learn more about people, sites and events that helped shape our great city. Please RSVP today!
