About this Event
Join us for an inspiring talk with Dr. Judith Guskin, a distinguished educator, organizer, and filmmaker whose life's work has been shaped by a passion for service and social justice. Dr. Guskin's journey began during the pivotal days of the 1960 presidential election when Senator Kennedy's challenge to students led her to organize support for what would become the Peace Corps. This experience brought her to the forefront of the Kennedy administration, where she played a key role in selecting the first Peace Corps groups and later served as a volunteer in Thailand.
Dr. Guskin's career is a testament to the transformative power of service. From her work in developing educational programs in Thailand to her involvement in launching VISTA (the domestic Peace Corps), she has dedicated her life to creating opportunities for others to serve and succeed. Her academic pursuits took her back to the University of Michigan, where she earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, and her research and teaching have impacted communities across the United States, from bilingual education programs in Milwaukee to desegregation efforts in Ohio.
As a filmmaker, Dr. Guskin has documented the stories of educators and Peace Corps volunteers, and she continues to engage with national organizations focused on civics education and strengthening democracy. Currently, she collaborates with CEO John Bridgeland on a bipartisan initiative to heal the divisions in our country, working with governors, presidential libraries, and nonprofits.
Don't miss this opportunity to hear Dr. Guskin's remarkable story and her insights on the power of service, education, and community action.
