NOW PLAYING: "Night of the Living Dead" (1968) dir. George A. Romero
"They're coming to get you, Barbara!"
The one that started it all! George A. Romero's groundbreaking debut,"Night of the Living Dead" is considered one of cinema's all-time greats. The film follows a group of survivors trapped in a farmhouse as the dead rise from their graves and begin to attack the living. "Night of the Living Dead" would be the standard for zombie movies to follow with its conventions and tropes. It explores themes of fear, isolation, and humanity's darkest impulses as the survivors struggle to stay alive in a world overrun by the undead. With it's cast of mostly unknown actors, Duane Jones, who plays Ben, would be a stand-out character and make history as the first Black hero in a horror movie. The film's realistic portrayal of violence and its exploration of social issues made it a landmark in horror cinema.
We are so incredibly excited to be partnering with See It On 16MM for this screening. Come see an original horror classic the way it was meant to be shown—projected on original 16MM film!
Screening is FREE to attend, RSVP is encouraged! We'll have food on site from our friends at Chismosa Cafe and a VHS/Record pop-up from Spinning Plate Records for all your horror movie/music needs!
