This special evening marks the beginning of Cinque’s multi-month residency, featuring a collection of work that explores the human condition through bold color, texture, symbolism, and layered visual storytelling. Guests will enjoy a first look at the artwork, meet the artist, and celebrate the creative energy he’ll be bringing to the hotel throughout the year.

Cinque’s artwork will remain on display February through the end of July, with additional artist activations and events planned during the residency.
ABOUT CINQUE SMITH:
Self-taught artist Cinque Smith, who is originally from Dayton, Ohio, and now resides in Chicago, Illinois was inspired early on by illustration, film and music. Through visual storytelling, with the figure being a vessel for commonality and a spiritual connection to the viewer, he has been able to cultivate and manifest his artistry. Smith’s work is a combination of techniques focusing on the human condition with an emphasis on color, texture and symbolism.
His newest series of artwork has elements of multiple artistic styles, showing a new trajectory for the artist’s work. “I find myself being pulled in multiple directions and styles as it pertains to my work. Elements of hyperrealism mixed with cubism exude and occupy a sector of my work. While a more abstract expressionism with elements of figurative art begins to dominate another,” he says. “Although I try and separate the techniques, they are all helping me to expand and elevate in regards to my work.
Smith hopes that his current paintings “convey emotion and a visual storytelling that the viewer can explore along with me.” He continues, “The painting labeled Untitled showcases a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders. His awaiting of the train in what looks to be a middle of a storm can also be a metaphor so many of us can relate to. I chose to purposefully not reveal the face of my subject and instead allow the viewer to peal layers off bit by bit and come with their own conclusion.”
