About this Event
As part of our Spring Fling programme on our theme, About Time, come to the ARC for this special CinemARC event. We’re screening the smash-hit Interstellar, by Christopher Nolan.
It’s also a chance to hear from physicist Dr Daniel Williams. He’ll be talking about time, and black holes, and questioning the accuracy of the science of the movie. Here’s your chance to ask your burning questions about the film to a physicist who can answer them.
Schedule
- 17:30 – Doors open and refreshments served
- 17:45 – 18:10 – Talk from Dr Daniel Williams
- 18:10 – 18:20 – Audience questions

Interstellar | Christopher Nolan | 2014 | 169 minutes
When Earth becomes uninhabitable in the future, a farmer and ex-NASA pilot, Joseph Cooper, is tasked to pilot a spacecraft, along with a team of researchers, to find a new planet for humans.
About Dr Daniel Williams
Daniel Williams is a research fellow in UofG's Institute for Gravitational Research. He specialises in analysing gravitational waves created when black holes collide with each other, creating the biggest explosions since the Big Bang. In 2025 he led the international publication of new results which doubled the number of these events ever observed.
About the Institute for Gravitational Research
The Institute for Gravitational Research (IGR) was founded in 2000; its main focus is the detection of gravitational waves, a goal it achieved in collaboration with researchers around the world in 2015. Today the IGR has over 70 researchers working on building the equipment which detects these faint cosmic signals, analysing the data from those detections to understand the objects which created them, and transferring the technology we develop for industrial advancement.
