Radical Roots, Collective Futures: Forging Access for All
About this Event

Join the Center for Independent Living as a sponsor of our 54th Anniversary Event—an evening honoring community leadership, creativity, and collective impact, while supporting the ongoing work of the first Independent Living Center in the world.

Founded in 1972, CIL is a cornerstone of the global disability rights movement. Rooted in the legacy of Ed Roberts and the Independent Living Movement, CIL advances disability justice through advocacy, direct services, community organizing, and leadership development—working toward a world where people with disabilities have the resources, rights, and opportunities to live independently and with dignity.

Sponsorship of this event directly supports CIL’s mission and programs, while offering meaningful visibility, recognition, and engagement during one of our most significant annual celebrations.

At the heart of the evening is The Artichoke Award, a distinction historically presented by CIL to community leaders, cultural workers, and change-makers whose work reflects courage, authenticity, and care. Inspired by Ed Roberts’ words—“a little prickly on the outside, with a big heart on the inside”—the award honors those who lead boldly while remaining deeply grounded in compassion and community.
