Join us for an immersive exploration of the history of the Qur’anic text. This intensive course will cover topics such as oral transmission, written compilation, composition, structure, and variant readings of the Qurʾān.
The course discussions and materials draw upon a variety of scholarly perspectives, both from within and outside the Islamic tradition, and engage with predominant narratives about the Qurʾān within the Western academic tradition.
This seminar-style course will feature a blend of lectures, open discussions, and exercises, all designed to foster interactive learning experiences. Participants are expected to come prepared by reading assigned materials and actively participating in in-class discussions.
Introductory knowledge about the Qur’anic sciences is recommended.

Instructors:
Shaykh Yousef Wahb is an Islamic Law Instructor at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law, LexisNexis Canada Family Law Author, and holds a Masters of Law LL.M from the University of Windsor and a Bachelor in Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar University. Shaykh Yousef also serves as a co-founding board member of Green Ummah, founding board member of the University of Windsor Muslim Chaplaincy, and an Islamic Compliance Advisor at Beneficent. Currently, Sh. Yousef is completing his second Masters at the University of Chicago Divinity School.
Dr. Ammar Khatib is a scholar of the Qur’anic sciences and a specialist in Arabic linguistics. He completed his doctorate in Islamic sciences at the Université Privée Africaine Franco-Arabe (UPAFA) with a dissertation on the anomalous readings of the Prophet’s companions. He has written many treatises on matters related to Qur’anic recitations (qirā’āt) and the Qur’anic text, and has collaborated closely with Dr. Ghānim Qaddūrī al-Ḥamad, one of the foremost specialists in Qur’anic studies in the Muslim world. He obtained several certifications (ijāzāt) in the study of the Qur’an, qirā’āt, Hadith, and various Islamic fields. He is the Director of Education and Religious Affairs for the Manitoba Islamic Association (MIA) and a member and consultant of the MIA Fiqh Committee
Dr. Nazir Khan is the President of Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research in Canada. He is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University and the Head of Diagnostic Neuroradiology at Hamilton Health Sciences. He is a medical doctor and clinical neuroscientist. He is also a PhD candidate in Islamic theology at the University of Nottingham. He has memorized the whole Qur’an and has received certification (ijāzah) in all ten readings of the Qur’an through both major and minor routes of transmission (ashara sughra and kubra), and has also received other certifications (ijāzāt) in Qur’anic studies (ʿUlūm al-Qurʾan), Hadith studies, and Islamic theology (ʿaqīdah). His non-medical research interests include the relationship between theology, science, and contemporary philosophical discourses.
