Andrew Liddle will explore Winston Churchill's much neglected relationship with Scotland during the era of the Great War. Churchill was an MP for Dundee between 1908-1922. The city gave him five election victories and a platform to progress his political career - including holding high office at the Admiralty during the Great War. He was also the CO of 6th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers, for four months in 1916. Scotland gave Churchill his wife, Clemmie, a scion of the aristocratic Ogilvy family from Angus. Churchill's time in Dundee also awakened an interest in social policy - and he became a leading member of the reforming Liberal government in the years before 1914.
Andrew Liddle is a writer and political journalist. He is the author of the highly regarded biography, "Churchill - the Scottish Years" (2024).
