About this Event
Join us for a three farm tour up the Chumstick Valley outside of Leavenworth. We will meet at the Willkommen Park and Ride and load into a bus, making stops at Gibbs Organic Farm, Snowgrass Farm, and Infuse Organics. All of these farmers are farming the land using various regenerative practices - from dryland grain farming with Gibbs, to a focus on season extension techniques at Snowgrass, to integrating and conserving wildlife habitat within the farming landscape at Infuse Organics - the morning is sure to inspire, whether you are a budding farmer yourself, home garden, or just appreciate local produce. The tour will be held outdoors and involve walking over uneven ground. Please dress and plan accordingly.
Gibbs Organic Farm:
For almost 50 years, Grant Gibbs has owned and operated Gibbs Organic Farm. Grant has done roughly 20 years of dry land grain farming in Chelan county and is deeply involved in regenerative agriculture. Grant will lead a walking farm tour, discuss grain and dry land farming in Chelan County, and dive into the importance of regenerative agriculture within organic agriculture. Grant will describe some of the regenerative farming practices he incorporates at his farm.
Snowgrass Farm:
Come to Snowgrass Farm for an in-depth tour on a small farm growing in the upper Wenatchee Valley with a focus on season extension techniques for all growers. This tour will feature tips for growing in colder regions, like here at Snowgrass. No need for growing experience - all are welcome! Jenny Bourgeois is the owner of Snowgrass Farms, she and her team care for the crops from seed to sale. The small farm is 2 acres of diversified crops tucked between two forested ridges on P'Squosa land, surrounded by pure Pacific Northwest nature.
Snowgrass utilizes certified organic farming methods, various permaculture concepts and selective minimal tillage practices to help regenerate and build healthy soils and nutritional crops. Through an ecologically focused stewardship approach, we enhance biodiversity through diverse perennial plantings and hedgerows, wildlife habitat development, and responsible W**d management that help achieve a highly diversified farm environment. The resulting healthy ecosystem provides incredibly nutritious and flavorful produce.
