Březnová přednáška cyklu Staročeský dýchánek se uskuteční netradičně až v druhé polovině měsíce – 17. března 2026 od 17 hodin v dolním sále naší pražské budovy (Na Florenci 3, Praha 1). Vystoupí Christopher M. Bellitto (Kean University, New Jersey) s příspěvkem nazvaným The Archbishop of Prague’s Bad Dream: Jan of Jenstejn and the Great Western Schism.
Anotace:
Jan of Jenstein, archbishop of Prague, woke up the morning of 16 October 1378 from a terrible nightmare. In Satan’s hands were the keys to the kingdom of heaven, which he handed to another demonic figure who grabbed them, placed a tiara on his own head, and sat on the papal throne. In a letter he wrote to the Roman pope Urban VI, Jan described the dream, claiming it was a prophecy of the Great Western Schism. What does this dream tell us about Jan’s own delicate role in divided times?
