The public is invited to enjoy a Christmas tour of the Oglesby Mansion and some treats in the luxurious dining room. No reservations needed. Richard J. Oglesby is recognized as one of Decatur’s most distinguished citizens. He served his country well as a U.S. Senator, a Union General in the Civil War, a three-term governor of Illinois, and a close friend and colleague of Abraham Lincoln. He coined the phrase "The rail-splitter candidate" describing his friend Abraham Lincoln.
A $5.00 donation per adult and $2 per child is requested. Special tours for individuals and groups may also be arranged for a fee.
