O Phantom
What began as a cathartic songwriting exercise at Hull’s open mic nights for songwriter Daniel Mawer, quickly became a collective, keen to incorporate vintage synths and chorus pedals into their sound. Rose, Daniel and Rowan began working on material in between shifts at Polar Bear Music Club, using the stage before or after events. The venue would provide a comforting space to incorporate friends Beth (All Gone South) Tom (Neoplastic) and Lucy (Dead Naked Hippies) into the band’s first sessions.Armed tentatively with new material, the collective were booted into shape by Producer Matt Peel, who helped further incorporate lo-fi songwriting sensibilities into the project. Through working with Matt, the band developed a love for acts like Broadcast and Stereolab whilst taking further inspiration from their drives through the gothic countryside that surrounds Humberside.
Long Island
"Bright indie production, punchy pop guitars and hook-laden heartfelt lyrics carve a sound unique to Huddersfield based LONG ISLAND. Hatched out of a university project, vocalist Rhiannon and guitarist/producer Cameron embarked on crafting a world that explored their love of indie-pop. Through a shared passion for all things catchy, drummer Jan and bassist Jack were brought on board to complete the line-up. Championed by the likes of BBC Introducing West Yorkshire & Sheffield and CLOUT as one of their ones to watch in 2024, the forthcoming year is already shaping up to be their busiest as new music looms on the horizon. With packed-out headline shows in Huddersfield, alongside supporting the likes of Corella, The Royston Club and Andrew Cushin, LONG ISLAND are gathering momentum towards a dedicated fanbase around the north.Inspired by the likes of Sea Girls, PVRIS and The 1975, a melting-pot of their wide-ranging influences forges their distinctive sound. Elevated from headline shows to festivals, their unrelenting live sets will be sure to get you dancing and screaming along to every word. With the release of their debut album "infatuation's a nightmare" in January 2023 and "the freedom of being young" EP in September 2024, LONG ISLAND have built a sound custom-made for every situation in your life. A staple out of Huddersfield's extensive music scene, there is no stopping the road carved ahead."
