The Nature of Death at the Forbidden TreeThe forbidden tree plays a foundational role in both Christian and Islamic theology. The biblical narrative is noteworthy in that God states the penalty ahead of time: “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Gen.2:16-17). This sobering penalty prompts some important questions we hope to consider:
What is death?
Did Adam and Eve die that day?
