From 22 to 30 June, the Cathedral Choir will be on tour to Los Angeles, Carmel, Palo Alto, and San Francisco. They will be bringing bespoke programmes of the sacred music they sing almost daily as one of the pre-eminent English cathedral choirs. The repertoire for this tour will have a particular connection with Christ Church, featuring music of composers associated with the choral foundation across its nearly five centuries. These include John Taverner in the 16th century to William Walton in the 20th century up to the present with Howard Goodall in the 21st century. It will be nearly six years since the last North American tour and a decade since the Choir’s last appearance in California. As a choir of international renown, touring is a crucial component in the Cathedral Choir’s mission to offer its musical gifts to a world-wide audience. The Choir is pleased to be undertaking this tour under the directorship of Prof Stephen Darlington, MBE as he concludes his service as Interim Director of Music. Prof Darlington retired in 2018 after an illustrious 33 years as Organist of Christ Church.
