After a busy year touring his last album, World of my Own, Chris Helme, former lead singer of The Seahorses has been back in the studio to record stripped back versions of some of his 30 year back catalogue.
Forest For The Trees Vol 1 is the first such offering of this ongoing series of recordings & showcases gently crafted versions of songs such as Love Me & Leave Me, Standing On Your Head, and other Seahorses classics, You Can Talk To Me being a particularly stand out track. The reimaginings from his last album, World Of My Own also pull you deeper into the fragile soul of the songs, exposing their own previously veiled subliminal narratives.
Helme’s not content to let these songs gather dust in the studio, either. He’s hitting the road, taking Forest For The Trees across the UK this winter and into 2026. If you’re looking for a night of music that’s raw, soulful, and just a little bit bruised, you could do a lot worse than catching him live. This is a man who’s spent thirty years pouring his heart into his craft and on this evidence, he’s not done yet.
+ Support from Herbie May of the The Lounge Society
The Lounge Society guitarist Herbie May releases his debut solo single Bleeding/Shoelaces with Red Licorice on 7 November 2025.
Herbie May’s solo sound is stripped down and emotionally intelligent - think Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett, but also older artists: ‘It’s Lou Reed meets Orange Juice!’ squealed someone, and they’re maybe not wrong. You can also hear influences as varied as The The and PJ Harvey in the mix although this music is also completely its own thing. The record was produced by fellow Lounge Society member Archie Dewis and Gordon Raphael (of notoriety for his work with the Strokes, among others).
Herbie, like so many of his generation, feels extremely bewildered on a daily basis. In an effort to find something stable, something reliable and honest, he has turned to matching playful lyricism with captivating melodies.
Tickets: members £18. full £20 from the bar or seetickets.
