About this Event
On Saturday 12 April Chorus of Dissent and the Elastic Band proudly present a Baroque feast, featuring Boudicca, the Dissenters harpsichord plus stellar soloists. We will explore a wide landscape of both music and emotions, starting with the profoundly sad and yet redemptive Stabat Mater, written by Pergolesi when he was only 26, and knew he was dying. We will then perform the jolly and joyful 4th Brandenburg concerto by Bach, who was a great admirer of Pergolesi's music. The Brandendurg solo parts are for two treble recorders and violin, and we are privileged to have Julien Harman-Evans, Julie Shaw and Helen Cass as soloists.
The final piece is the famous Allegri Miserere, which, despite its title, communicates peace and hope, as the music soars upwards with soprano soloist Elspeth Piggott's top C.
These pieces from the Baroque period represent very different genres but make up a truly beautiful whole.
