In November 1965, Britain abolished hanging.For Harry Wade, the country’s last and second most famous hangman, this means the end of his notoriety, and an early retirement to run his Oldham pub alongside his wife and daughter. But on the very day of hanging’s abolition a mysterious and menacing young man with a connection to Harry’s past turns up at the bar, determined to turn Harry and his family’s lives upside-down.
