About this Event
In 2011, following a letter written by two military wives based in Catterick, Gareth Malone visited North Devon, more precisely Royal Marine Barracks Chivenor. RMB Chivenor, being a tri-service base that was soon to be deployed to Afghanistan, was chosen to represent all military wives.
Many of you will have followed their story of singing together as they opened their hearts with other military wives from Plymouth, culminating in the memorable performance at the Royal Albert Hall and a number 1 hit with a song written from letters sent to their husbands, ‘Wherever You Are’. Thus the Military Wives Choir was born.
The choir, made up of wives, veterans and ladies of a military connection, was grown through the work of original members from Chivenor and Catterick, to form the Military Wives Foundation, based on the legacy set in Devon. They have now inspired over 60 choirs around the world, who are still coming together for continued support and welfare.
To remain true to the core ethos of supporting local community, the original Chivenor Military Wives Choir have since incorporated as its own charity - the Chivenor Military Ladies Choir, which sing all around Great Britain and Europe.
