Chinese Calligraphy Workshop

UC San Diego’s Chinese Studies Program, Center for Taiwan Studies and the Library are co-hosting two Chinese calligraphy workshops with special guest Joan Yin from the San Diego Botanic Garden. The first session will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the second session will be held from 12 to 1 p.m.

Joan will give live demonstrations at the workshop, and then attendees will be free to try their hands at Chinese calligraphy or brush painting skills. Xi Chen, the Sally T. WongAvery Librarian for Chinese Studies, will be in attendance and available for questions.

This workshop is open to anyone in the UC San Diego community who wishes to learn Chinese calligraphy. Seating is limited, so advanced registration is encouraged to ensure your spot. (Check back soon for the registration link!)

Born and raised in Taiwan, Joan has always loved calligraphy and art. After graduating college with a degree in art, she studied fashion in Japan and worked in the fashion industry for years before moving to the US. Her work can be seen in North Carolina Museum of History, multiple city libraries in San Diego, Spanish Village in Balboa Park, San Diego Botanic Garden as well as Poway Center for the Performing Arts. Joan is an active member at the La Jolla Art Association and San Diego Long Hsiang painting group. She also teaches monthly brush painting workshops at San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas.
