This 3 week course open to Neurodivergent and Neurotypical children will be a fun and relaxed way to learn and experience the benefit’s of Aerial Yoga.
ADHD and Autism are both under the umbrella of Nuerodiversity. Children and adults who struggle with ADHD and Autism can also struggle with an overactive mind and can become overloaded with the stress of this, activating the Sympathetic Nervous System (Fight or Flight) which can sometimes lead to burnout. Even without a diagnosis of neurodiversity children and adults can still struggle with the above.
Here is a little evidence to support how Yoga can help Children with ADHD and Autism…

Performing Yoga poses with the Yoga Hammock promotes a deep sense of relaxation, safety and nurture. We will spend a few breaths in each pose, using deep diaphragmatic breathing, letting go of any tension from the body and mind. Some poses will require exertion and some less exertion and are more focused on relaxing and releasing into the pose. The contact with the hammock, and bolsters, combined with the diaphragmatic breathing all activates the PNS (Parasympathetic Nervous System), the calm and resting side of our nervous system.
We also have the added benefit of being able to perform inversions (hanging upside down). Inversions are a fun and great way to calm the mind also. Once you are able to relax into the inversion, and focus on the breath the mind starts to relax. It is thought that the increased blood flow to the head provides the brain and the mind with more energy. This extra energy allows the mind to quieten down. In Yoga philosophy it is said that the more energy we can cultivate through breathwork and postures, the more the mind relaxes. So inversions allow us to experience this is a relaxed, safe and supported way.
Different Breathing techniques will also be used in class in order to stimulate the Vagus Nerve. Low Vagal Tone has been shown in some studies to be linked to ADHD & Autism. A Yogic Breathing technique knows as “Humming Bee” activates the Vagus Nerve by vibrating the throat which promotes higher Vagal Tone. Higher Vagal tone leads to a more balanced and flexible nervous system.
The wonderful combination of these methods will give your child the time to calm their mind and nervous system, leaving them more peaceful, grounded and balanced, whilst improving their focus, and attention.
