INDABA is a warm-hearted children's performance that explores the rich tapestry of Afro-Finnish identities through music, dance and storytelling.
How does it feel to be Finnish, African, or both? Who tells our stories best?
Derived from the isiZulu word for a meeting or meaningful discussion, INDABA invites you to experience a vibrant merge of bamboo flute grooves, Tanzanian rhythms, a taste of South African amapiano and solos on voice, trombone, flutes, timbila, percussion, and dance. The performers speak and sing in Finnish, English, Kiswahili and Kisumbwa.
Inspired by the book ´Third Culture Kids´, this performance celebrates diversity and fluidity and encourages each person to tell their own story in their own way. Let’s have an indaba!
Performers:
Ayla Brinkmann (FIN/RSA)
Kasheshi Makena (TZA/FIN)
Pietari Kauppinen (FIN/ETH)
Duration: 45 min.
