About this Event
Children's Saturday Christmas Clay Workshop
Saturday 30th November 11am-12.30pm
Join Maureen Finn for an immersive, tactile Clay Sculpture workshop where your child can express themselves exploring form, shape, texture, mark-making.
In this session children can reflect ideas cross culturally about the season of Christmas and how they celebrate mark it.
Why not make a decoration for a friend or family member for your Christmas tree, or table? You can also take inspiration from the current exhibitions, Amplify: Young People Curate and John Graham's Familiar Things.
Children will experiment with various ceramic techniques rolling ,pinching and manipulating clay, use texturing tools and coloured slips to create their individual ceramic pieces.
The items that children create will be fired by Maureen and available to collect from the gallery in the weeks following the workshop, in time for Christmas.
Clay is a very supple and tactile material, simply playing with clay can stimulate the pressure points in our hands which leads to therapeutic benefits. It is also one of the oldest and widespread art forms and its ancient techniques have remained unchanged and are still used today to form sculptural, decorative and functional work.
About Children’s Workshops at Highlanes Gallery
Workshops are for children aged 5 – 13yrs and charged at €8 per child.
Workshops at the gallery are process-based and explore basic concepts and ideas with children as they are looking. The emphasis is placed on understanding the ideas surrounding the objects. Making objects forms part of that process but is not the only goal of the workshop.
