CPD training empowering schools with evidence-based education on pregnancy, birth & parenting for secondary school pupils.
About this Event

Childbirth is a profound psychological experience that has a physical, psychological, social and existential impact both in the short and long term'. We believe that educating young adults on childbirth and parenting could be key to empowering the future generation of parents.

The midwifery team at University of Suffolk would like to partner with schools around the UK to enable teachers and young adults’ access to current research on pregnancy, birth and parenting.

Evidence shows that antenatal education can reduce fears, decrease stress, improve self-efficacy and reduce caesarean sections. Reducing stress and optimising birth can have profound short- and long-term impact spanning across the whole life cycle.

Optimising health and wellbeing in pregnancy, birth and parenting can also:

Reduce childhood illnesses including diabetes, infections and metabolic conditions Improve neurological development

  • Improve gut health
  • Improve emotional regulation and wellbeing
  • Improve bonding and responsive parenting
  • Improve maternal long-term health and wellbeing
  • Reduce intervention and birth trauma
  • Prevent loss and preterm birth.

This training aims to upskill your staff on the delivery of the current LIFE curriculum. Our CPD training is face to face teaching that offers young adults and teachers’ insight into the following topics:

  • What are the myths surrounding pregnancy and birth?
  • Sexual health and pre-conceptional care
  • Healthy pregnancy choices
  • Healthy pregnancy and birth processes
  • Breastfeeding and responsive parenting
