Join us for Chicken Basics, a free community event designed for beginners and anyone curious about keeping chickens for fresh, home-grown eggs, family learning, gardening, and a more sustainable lifestyle.
Learn from local chicken keepers Caleb Grimes, Tamera Pierce, and Sarge as they share practical, real-world experience about raising chickens in Middle Georgia. You'll learn about popular breeds including Lavender Orpingtons, Sapphire Gems, and Silkies, along with the basics of housing, feeding, watering systems, predator protection, and daily care.
Topics include:
• Choosing the right breeds for your goals
• DIY coops made from recycled and repurposed materials
• Feeders and low-cost watering systems
• Benefits of home-grown eggs
• Using chickens as part of a regenerative lifestyle
• Common beginner mistakes and how to avoid them
• Questions and answers with local chicken keepers

This event is presented by The Resilient Life Series, a new community initiative focused on practical skills, meaningful connections, and building resilience in everyday life. Future programs will include Tea Pot Traditions for children, sewing and handwork workshops, gardening, regenerative farming, food education, and other hands-on learning experiences for all ages.
