Blues dancing is an umbrella term for a family of living Black American dances that evolved across the U.S. and act as the roots of many other movements. The different styles were shaped by different Blues music genres from the 1800’s to today. These genres vary in instrumentation, rhythms and tempos leading to a variety of different expressions throughout Blues idioms. Connection in Blues ranges from close embrace to solo movement, and your connection to the music is prized as much as your connection to your partner. This week's events are a little special: We are bringing in guest instructor Catherina Brown to teach a 2-hour-long workshop on Chicago Steppin'! Though not a Blues dance itself, Chicago Steppin' shares roots with Blues and is becoming popular in the national Blues dance scene. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from the founder of Styles of Steppin' herself!
After the workshop (available to all Blues 1 & 2 series class students, as well as at a drop-in rate of $50), join up-and-coming Blues dance instructor Alexandra Zinkus for a drop-in lesson, followed by Reverie's first ever Blues live music night featuring music by Elnah Jordan! Band breaks will be DJ'd by Seattle-turned-LA-DJ Leah Vendl. This is a night you won't want to miss.
