About this Event
Chicago Reparations Rally Co-hosted by the Conrad Worrill Community Reparations Commission and Community Partners - SAVE THE DATE!!!

COME JOIN US at the Conrad Worrill Track and Field, 10201 S. Cottage Grove Ave., Chicago IL on August 19, 2024 at 5:00 pm as the Conrad Worrill Community Reparations Commission (CWCRC), Chi-Village and Community Partners Co-host the Chicago Reparations Rally in loving memory of Dr. Conrad Worrill (August 15, 1941 - June 3, 2020).

The purpose of the Chicago Reparations Rally, set against the backdrop of the Democratic National Convention, serves as a pivotal moment to galvanize the reparations movement both locally and nationally. This event aims to unite local and national reparations leaders, community members, clergy, and elected officials in a powerful demonstration of solidarity. By leveraging the national spotlight of the DNC, the rally seeks to amplify the call for reparations, educate the public, and influence legislative redress. In remeberance of the ancestors of the Descendant of Enslaved Africa.

Dr. Conrad Worrill was an educator amongst others things, therefore we are working hard to collect 2,000 book bags to giveaway at the rally to help foster educational success for students.

The Conrad Worrill Community Reparation Commission leaders have been advocating for reparations in Chicago for 2019. We have been a key contributing force to getting $500,000 in the 2024 budget for the new subcommittee, as well as working towards: the Office of Descendants of Enslaved Africans (TBD), Reparative Basic Income/other Wealth Gap Iniatives and the new slavery era and redress ordinance.

On June 17, 2024 during the City of Chicago's Juneteenth Flag Raising Celebration, Mayor Brandon Johnson made national news when he took two very important steps towards advancing reparations in Chicago. First, he signed an Executive Order to establish a Reparation Task Force. And, secondly and perhaps the largest achievement in Chicago Reparations to date, he issued a formal apology for the city's involvement in chattel slavery.
