The Chicago Jazz Orchestra Summer Residency continues!
The late trumpet legend Clark Terry called Chicago Jazz Orchestra "The best big band in the country."
In August 1979, the ensemble was the opening band on the first night of the First Annual Chicago Jazz Festival. 45 years later, the CJO stands as not only the oldest professional big band in Chicago, but also the second oldest professional civic jazz orchestra in the United States (second only to the Columbus Jazz Orchestra).
Possessing a warm, expressive sound, an energetic rhythmic feel, and formidable melodic and harmonic insight, saxophonist Scott Burns has been a fixture on the Chicago jazz scene since moving to the city in 1998. Scott frequently shares the stage with veteran Chicago jazz musicians, including Jodie Christian, Ron Perrillo, Jeff Parker, George Fludas, Dana Hall, Kelly Sill, Paulinho Garcia, Bobby Broom, and others. He released his debut album “Passages” in 2016. "Burns performs with the intensity and earnestness of the jazz giants of the 1960's--John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, and Sonny Rollins....The essence of jazz was pouring from his horn in every measure of music." – All About Jazz
