Join us for this month’s Chappell Hill Historical Society Membership Meeting at the Chappell Hill Museum Auditorium beginning at 6:00 p.m.Our featured speaker will be Dr. Richard B. McCaslin, Ph.D., Director of Publications for the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA). Dr. McCaslin is the former TSHA Professor of Texas History at the University of North Texas and an accomplished historian who has written or edited twenty books exploring Texas and Southern history.
His award-winning works include:
Tainted Breeze: The Great Hanging at Gainesville, Texas, October 1862 – winner of the Tullis Award
Lee in the Shadow of Washington – recipient of the Laney Prize and Slatten Award, and a Pulitzer Prize nominee
Fighting Stock: John S. “Rip” Ford of Texas – honored with the Pate Award and Bates Award
At the Heart of Texas: One Hundred Years of the Texas State Historical Association, 1897–1997 – awarded an Award of Merit from the Texas Philosophical Society
Saratoga on the Cibolo: Sutherland Springs, Texas – recipient of a Publication Award from the San Antonio Conservation Society
A Fellow of the TSHA, Dr. McCaslin has also received commendations from the Civil War Round Tables in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Shreveport for his outstanding academic contributions.
