About this Event
Registration & Cancellation:
I live in Boulder now, so I have to cancel classes with fewer than 4 students. I will notify you 24 hours in advance of cancellation if the class doesn't met enrollment, so please pre-register here and bring friends!
This is not a series. All classes are standalone, and you will leave with at least one completed basket!
Location:
100 Carr St., Lakewood, CO 80226
Lakewood UCC is a progressive church with inclusive Pride flags and Black Lives Matter Signs, and I'm usually the only one using the building Friday nights.
Parking:
They're attached to a school on the East side of the building, so park on the West side of the building, and the front entrance is facing the street on the South side.
Prices:
Community Supporter - $60
Choose this rate if you’d like to help make these classes accessible to everyone. By paying at the supporter level, you’re directly contributing to a shared pool that subsidizes lower-cost spots for folks who otherwise might not be able to attend.
Standard - $40
This is the true cost of the class. Paying at this level covers materials, instruction, and helps keep the program sustainable.
Supported Rate - $15
This option is for self-identified members of marginalized communities, and anyone who would benefit from financial support right now. No explanation needed. No one turned away for lack of funds, please reach out for alternate arrangements.
Age:
All ages, youth 12 & under are welcome with an adult.
Salix:
Hensci, Salix cvhocefkvtos! Hello, my name is Salix!
Pronouns: they/ them
I am a multiracial, mestizx, Muscogee Nation tribal member, and I have Cherokee ancestors from outside of Atlanta, was well as ancestors from many other lineages. I'm a queer 'two spirit' artist, and not an elder, but totally an 'elder millennial' lol
I moved to Cheyenne/Arapaho/Ute country (Denver) Aug. 2022, and now live in Boulder, from Kiowa territory, the traditional homelands of many nations, Norman, OK.
I learned how to do Oklahoma style round reed Cherokee basket weaving in Norman in 2017 from Kathy Haney (Seminole, Muscogee, Shawnee, Delaware, Kickapoo), and I'd really love to share it with you. Weaving is one of my favorite ways to be mindful and centered in community.
I have a BFA in Studio Art from the University of OK, an MSW from the University of Pittsburgh, and I have 1 year left of an MDiv at Iliff School of Theology.
