Faculty RecitalJoin us for an evocative evening of collaborative artistry as mezzo-soprano Chelsea Cushman and pianist Maja Tremiszewska present a program spanning dramatic narrative, intimate poetry and musical theatre gems.
The program begins with Camille Claudel: Into the Fire, a powerful song cycle featuring music by Jake Heggie and texts by Gene Scheer that delves into the sculptor’s turbulent inner world. It continues with Jonathan Newman’s Found Postcards, a vivid suite of musical vignettes inspired by real messages from the early twentieth century. The evening concludes with “Unsung Sondheim,” a collection of rarely heard works from music-theatre icon Stephen Sondheim, including “The Boy From…” from The Mad Show, “What Can You Lose?” from Dick Tracy and “Don’t Laugh” from Hot Spot.
Cushman and Tremiszewska bring their combined artistry to life in this richly textured musical journey where memory and imagination, poetry and theatre, converge in performance.
