About this Event
Charlies Sounds (2)- Arthur Russell
Thursday 30th July | Doors 7PM
We’re proud to introduce our next Charlies Sounds event, a listening series dedicated to experiencing great records in the best possible way.
Our first event has been extremely popular so we have decided to go again.
Arthur Russell:
Arthur Russell (1951–1992) was a visionary American cellist, composer, and producer who bridged the gap between downtown New York’s avant-garde, avant-pop, and underground disco scenes. Known for his distinctive voice, cello-driven compositions, and collaborations with artists like Allen Ginsberg and Philip Glass, he produced influential, genre-defying music under various aliases including Dinosaur L and Loose Joints
2 albums will be played in full, in pitch black, through our large-scale d&b audiotechnik sound system — removing distractions and allowing the music to take centre stage.
The Albums
7:00PM. World of Echo (1986)
Widely regarded as his masterpiece and the only solo studio album released during his lifetime (1986).
8:30PM - Another Thought (1993)
The first posthumous collection, released in 1993, which Be With Records describes as essential for even casual fans of "non-obvious pop music".
It features some of his most beloved tracks, including "A Little Lost" and "This Is How We Walk on the Moon".
About Charlies Sounds
Charlies Sounds is inspired by listening sessions found in some of the best venues across the UK. The idea is simple: bring people together to listen — properly. No distractions — just great records played loud on a world-class sound system, in the dark.
