CHARLIE PARR | 9 PM
Charlie Parr is an incorruptible outsider who writes novelistic, multi-layered stories that shine a kaleidoscopic light on defiant, unseen characters thriving in the shadows all around us. Parr has released 14 studio albums and tours the globe performing at legendary venues like Newport Folk Festival, The Kennedy Center, First Avenue, The Troubadour, and Bowery Ballroom. But he hasn’t moved to LA or Nashville; he’s stayed in the cold grey north of Minnesota, because that’s his home. His new record, Little Sun, is out now on the legendary Smithsonian Folkways Recordings.
LANUE | 7:30 PM
Feeling detached from her previously released work as years lapsed, Duluth, Minnesota’s Sarah Krueger set out to Hive, a small studio nestled near the river in her hometown of Eau Claire, WI. In the course of two separate sessions, (the first on the cusp of a long winter, and the second on the fringe of summer’s swell), Krueger assembled a cast of collaborators to help flesh out a collection of songs that would later become the catalyst for Lanue. Culled from the title of a poem that found its way to Krueger from a thrift store shelf, Lanue comes to us as a project that stands firmly in front of a fresh creative backdrop and boasts a more developed taste and sincerity than Krueger’s previous releases — both a welcome departure and anticipated return.
ELDRI SNOW AND THE WINTRY MIX | 6:30 PM
In the last 20-plus years, singer-songwriter Eldri Snow has gone from being a self-proclaimed Twin Ports music groupie to writing and performing her own songs and hosting the Eldri Snow Variety Show at Earth Rider Festival Field. A soulful, down-to-earth folk singer, Snow is inspired by greats like Nanci Griffith and Gillian Welch and local favorites Feeding Leroy. She serves as co-director of the Great Northern Squash Festival in Chaffey, Wis. The Wintry Mix features “Misisipi” Mike Wolf on guitar and Shanna Willie on the drum kit.
Rain or shine.
