Margate-based songwriter Charlie Hannah returns to the Lighthouse to present his 6th solo album ‘Tortured Genius’. He is known for writing big melodies, juicy harmonies and singalong choruses both in his power-pop, psych-infused band Itchy Teeth and as a solo artist. Striking a delicate balance between sincerity and humour, his songs may be performed with a wry smile but they are always heartfelt. He is known for coining the micro-genre - ‘domestica’ - songs about housework, hobbies and the human condition. In Tortured Genius Hannah explored myriad sides of the human psyche through storytelling, pastiche, confessional songwriting and humour. He’s performed at the Lighthouse many times in the past but it has been a long gap between his last gig and this one. So come on down if you fancy a pre-Smugglers shindig to whet the whistle.
Plus support from Dan Lyons -
“If music was scholarly then Dan Lyons would hail from that of Bob Dylan and Lou Reed. His lyrics are commanding, both piquant and hard-hitting. Take ‘Biarritz ft. Clémence Quélennec’ for example, with its imagery of Southern France in the 1960s evoked through a bouncy drum-beat and catchy riff. Its clever narrative brings immersion, as Dan recalls memories of a short-lived, lop-sided romance and spins characters and settings into life. Through vivid imagery rarely seen in song, he can tell stories in earnest… Dan Lyons is a storyteller. In another life, he’d find himself living amongst the Beats of New York’s Greenwich Village or living rent-free as a poet in Paris’ Shakespeare & Co.” – CLASH MAGAZINE
