About this Event
Hollywood Jazz, Silent Film and CHARLIE CHAPLIN!
This Valentine’s season, Charlie Chaplin comes to Crooners in a one-of-a-kind cinematic and musical experience featuring a live chamber orchestra and special guest vocalist Maud Hixson. The evening begins with Maud Hixson performing a collection of mid-century Hollywood jazz hits alongside renowned pianist Rick Carlson. Following this opening set, audiences will be treated to Chaplin’s beloved six-reel masterpiece, The Kid (1921), accompanied by composer Philip Shorey and the Curse of the Vampire Orchestra. Each performance will be followed by a brief interview exploring the timeless art of silent film and the musical traditions of classic Hollywood. Guests can expect an unforgettable evening of laughter, romance, and inspiration — a heartfelt celebration of the golden age of cinema brought to life with live music.
Maud Hixson: Guest Vocalist
Philip Shorey returns to the stage after performing for sold-out audiences across the U.S. and Europe with his acclaimed productions of Nosferatu (1922) and The Phantom of the Opera (1925). He sees himself as an advocate for healing the human heart and aims to create music that suits that vision.
Maud Hixson sings the Great American Songbook anywhere from New York to London, often with her husband, pianist Rick Carlson. Covering swing and other classic jazz styles and repertoire, she will often put the spotlight on songs deserving more attention. Her latest recording won a New York Bistro Award in New York and her new album, "When Winter Comes" will be released in December of 2025.
"It's a combination of going to the movies, but then also going to your favorite concert." - Triston MPR Art Hounds
