We know so little about female hummingbirds despite so much of our understanding of how hummingbird mating systems work resting on assumptions about their behavior and preferences. I can go over what we do and don't know, which includes research I did with Allen's and Rufous Hummingbird in California. I could also talk about my other main research projects, which includes how migratory behavior influences other life history traits (like female song, overall song complexity, and plumage dichromatism), what we know about the influence of genetics vs the environment on migratory behavior in birds, or what makes for a fast-flying hummingbird.
