The Ripon College Chamber Singers and Concert Choir will present a fall concert, Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3:15 p.m., in Demmer Recital Hall of Ripon College’s C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. Admission is free and open to the public. Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities Paul Thompson is the conductor. Both groups will be accompanied by Adjunct Instructor of Music Deb MacKenzie on piano.
Thompson said both groups have dedicated significant time and effort this semester.
“Concert Choir has grown to the largest size in the history of the group, and continues to grow in their ability to adapt to the demands of the repertoire they sing,” Thompson said. “We also have three student conductors (seniors Rori Beatty and Alec Marcinkevic and junior Matthew Buchholz) who will be conducting Concert Choir who are all doing tremendous work. Chamber Singers had a large number of singers graduate last year, and it’s exciting to hear the emergence of new leaders in each of the sections.”
Repertoire for the concert spans a variety of time periods, genres and cultures. Highlights include two pieces by Camille Saint-Saëns, a set of Slovak folk songs by Béla Bartók and “Regina Coeli” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
“People can come and hear a wide variety of music and may find something they’ve never heard before that touches them,” Thompson said. “They can join us in celebrating the success of our student conductors and can be a part of our wider community created by sharing our voices.”
