James Marshall is a Texas-based composer, clarinettist and music educator. Throughout his musical career, he has often worked with and been inspired by performers, including contrabass virtuoso Bert Turetzky, flautists Nancy Turetzky and George Hummel, and, more recently, clarinettist Alison Eales.
Alison has premiered his English Sonatina and several commissions including English Autumn (2019), “London” Concerto (2022), and two sonatas for clarinet & piano (2023 & 2025). Divertimento for clarinet, bassoon and stings was premiered at City Lit in March 2025, with Alison Eales, Debbie Barnes and string students conducted by Robert Puzey.
City Lit is delighted to present Jim's latest works for his British collaborators, alongside two chamber music classics.
