Chair Yoga Class - Thursday at 4.30pm - 5.30pm at The Space, Shaftesbury. 30th October, 6th , 13th, November, 4th December.
(Four sessions)
Chair yoga is a general term for practices that modify yoga poses while seated in a chair. These modifications make Yoga accessible to people who lack the mobility to move easily from standing to seated positions. There's no getting down onto the floor!
Yoga-inspired movements help keep joints supple and muscles free of tension, ending with relaxation. Many of the basic body mechanics of the individual postures are retained, no matter the practitioner's stance. The chair replaces the yoga mat and becomes an extension of your body. Seated yoga classes are for people with mobility or health problems such as arthritis, sore joints, muscle damage, bad backs, high blood pressure, and recovery from surgery or injury.
While seated on chairs, practitioners can do versions of twists, hip stretches, forward bends, and mild backbends. In addition to a good stretch, chair yoga participants can enjoy other Yoga health benefits, including improved muscle tone, better breathing habits, reduced stress, better sleep, and a sense of overall well-being.
Who Can Do Chair Yoga?
Chair Yoga helps people with disabilities, weight challenges, inflexibility, office workers, and those recovering from injuries. Classes are open to all, and no experience is required.
