About this Event
Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Malaysian culture with an afternoon of batik dyeing and a delightful Malaysian afternoon tea hosted by the winner of The Great British Bake Off Syabira Yusoff and Contemporary Batik Artist Ying. This is the first ever event in UK that combines the artistry of Contemporary Malaysian batik with the exquisite flavours of Malaysian tea and treats. Join us for an afternoon filled with creativity, relaxation, and culinary delights as we celebrate the rich heritage of Malaysia.
Batik Ying is founded by a Malaysian-born architect turned batik artist, Shirlyn. She creates contemporary batik artwork using Malaysian traditional dyeing & wax-resist techniques, with designs influenced by the Art Nouveau style.
With her contemporary take on this traditional art form, she hopes to make batik more accessible and invite more people to discover the beauty of batik together. To this end, she hosts batik workshops and live demonstrations, including recent exhibitions with Birmingham Architect Association, Gallery Pop-Up and MOVED City. Her workshops has also been featured in "I Choose Birmingham" as one of the best things to do in Brum.
Ever since winning The Great British Bake Off, Syabira Yusoff has been spicing up the UK with a taste of Malaysia! After her sizzling success with the unique Malaysian Afternoon Tea Experience in Tower Hill this summer, she's back with a bang, bringing you an even more tantalising menu for her afternoon tea. Her previous tea party was such a hit that it left everyone craving for more culinary adventures!
