CGA is the solo project of Jubba van Wyk — drummer, producer, and lifelong musician. After decades performing in bands, touring, recording, and shaping music across genres, CGA became the space where Jubba could finally explore a sound that was entirely his own. What started as a personal experiment grew into a project where indie, reggae, trip hop, R&B, and rock blend freely, guided by instinct, curiosity, and years of experience rather than any fixed formula.Jubba’s musical journey began early. Growing up in South Africa, he picked up the drums at just ten years old and quickly became immersed in music. He spent the following decades performing, recording, and developing his craft across a wide range of styles and settings — experiences that shaped the rhythmic sensibility and musical identity that now define CGA.
The name CGA comes from “Color Graphics Adapter,” the early computer graphics system — a nod to Jubba’s appreciation for creativity, experimentation, and ideas that move in unexpected directions. CGA is about feel, groove, and atmosphere. It’s music shaped by the places Jubba has lived, the people he has met, and the sounds that have influenced him through every chapter of his life.
Since relocating to Taiwan, Jubba has steadily built CGA into a familiar and respected presence in the island’s live music scene. Since 2019, the project has played nearly 50 shows around Taiwan, including festivals, bars, livehouses, and private events. Whether on a small stage or a larger outdoor setup, CGA delivers a seamless flow of styles with no dead air — a set built to keep the momentum moving. Even as a solo act, each show holds a strong sense of connection and presence, shaped by years of performing and understanding how to make an audience lock in.
CGA represents the culmination of a lifetime behind the drum kit and years spent moving through different musical landscapes. It is shaped by the foundation of band life but driven by a desire to carve out new territory independently. CGA is a project built on rhythm, honesty, and freedom — an ongoing journey defined by every beat that led here.
