Well over 60% of all film and television projects involve firearms!
Let’s face it. Virtually everyone in the film and television industry will be involved with projects that include firearms as a part of their story. We all acknowledge that believability is necessary to capture and hold the audience’s attention. Believability is lost when an actor displays an absence of even basic firearms knowledge. Not only is it necessary to know how to properly and safely handle a firearm, we believe that it is the duty of all involved to educate and potentially save the lives of fans who may emulate what they see on the screen.
A Professionally-Taught, Fast-Paced 4-Hour Certificated Class!
We are offering a professionally-taught, fast-paced 4-hour course on safe and proper handgun technique for the industry. Everyone attending will participate. Whether you’re an expert marksman or someone who has never touched a gun in your life, you’ll be pleasantly surprised as to how competent you will be by the end of the class. For those who may be thinking, “I don’t want to shoot a real gun,” that’s fine. You don’t have to. In fact, there will be no weapons of any kind at the workshop. Yes, everyone will shoot. And no, there will not be any actual weapons present. We will be using training “pistols” that are incapable of firing a projectile. We will be using plastic handgun replicas and SIRT training pistols which “shoot” a very low-powered red laser dot. Toward the end of the class, you will shoot a simulator that will visually show your speed and accuracy. You’ll be surprised at all you have learned - proper grip, stance, trigger control, sight alignment, aiming, sight picture, accuracy, moving and shooting, and a lot more.
The Bottom Line: At the end of the 4-hour workshop, you won’t be embarrassed using a firearm in your next project; in fact, you’ll be proud when friends and fans see the film and ask, “Wow! How many years have you been shooting? ” The main thing is that you and the film or TV project look really good and you set an outstanding, safe gun-handling example for all who watch.
What You'll Learn:
- Firearm Safety (Incredibly Important)
- Shooting fundamentals (Stance, Grip, Sight Alignment, Trigger Control, etc.)
- Presenting the firearm (from holster to rounds on target)
- The effects of stress (what your gun-handling character is experiencing)
- [Tunnel Vision, Auditory Exclusion, Loss of Cognitive Thought and Analytical Ability]
- [Time Distortion, Loss of Focus, Loss of Fine Motor Skills, etc.]
- Accurate shot placement: Aiming and Point Shooting
- Reloading/Changing Magazines
- Firing from various positions
- Clearing malfunctions
- Precision shooting
- One-handed shooting - strong and weak hand
- Eye dominance - learn whether you're right eye or left eye dominant (and what that means)
- Shooting on the move including while advancing and retreating
- Shooting positions - standing, kneeling, prone, barricade
- Lots of individual laser pistol firing for accuracy and technique
- Amazing insight into the mindset of law enforcement, criminals, and armed citizens
- Simulation that will evaluate and time your shots, magazine changes, etc.
- And a lot more!

Don't want to handle a real gun?

Not a problem. There will be no weapons at this event, only rubber and low-power laser training "guns." Think you'll never need to hold or fire a weapon on camera? Think again. Odds are that you will do so many times in your career. With well over 60% of feature film and television projects utilizing handguns and other weapons, you need to know how to at least look believable and set a good, safe gun-handling example for those who will watch your finished project. AND, even if you never touched a gun (or prop gun) on set, you have a responsibility, we believe, to look out for your own safety and the safety of the cast and crew. Know what to look for; be aware and you can potentially prevent tragedy by some clueless or negligent person on set. Producing a film or TV project requires a team effort.

You Never Know What Industry VIPs Will Drop By
We were delighted to have a number of film producers and directors not only observe but also actually take classes with us. Producer-director-actor Al Burke has observed 4 classes so far and found at least two actors for his film and television projects. Mr. Burke, schedule permitting, will be joining us for this event. At lease five feature film and television producers have attended these classes. Our friend producer-actor Kevyn Major Howard ("Rafterman" in "Full Metal Jacket") dropped by unexpectedly at a class (photo above) and stayed for nearly an hour afterward talking with the actor, producer, and director "students." (IMDB ranks Kevyn Major Howard in the upper 1/3rd of 1% of entertainment industry professionals worldwide!) So there are usually fringe benefits attached to attending in addition to learning to look great safely with firearms on camera!
