This two-day in-person program prepares professionals to enhance care for individuals with brain injuries and supports their readiness for the CBIS exam. The curriculum covers brain anatomy, medical, cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial consequences, rehabilitation strategies, family and community support, and evidence-based practices.

16 Hours of live in-person ACBIS training led by Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainers (CBIST)
CBIS certification application fee*
The Essential Brain Injury Guide 6.0 (hardcover) and study companion
One-year subscription to the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation
*Eligibility to sit for the CBIS exam requires meeting ACBIS criteria. Attendance does not guarantee certification.
Target Audience: Professionals in acute care, post-acute rehab, behavioral health, social work, vocational rehab, and education.
Educational Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: Applicants must have at least 500 hours of verifiable supervised experience with individuals with brain injury (paid or academic internship), completed under the supervision of a professional licensed in good standing, and a high school diploma or equivalent.
Learning Outcomes:
Describe brain anatomy and function relevant to injury
Identify medical, physical, cognitive, and psychosocial consequences
Apply evidence-based strategies in rehab and community settings
Understand family, vocational, and community support
Prepare for the CBIS exam
Agenda (At-a-Glance):
Session 1 (Apr 25): Chapters 1–10
Session 2 (Apr 26): Chapters 11-25
Each session 8:00 a.m.– 5:30 p.m. ET with breaks at 10:00-10:15 a.m, 12:00-1:00 p.m. lunch, 3:00-3:15 p.m. Agenda subject to change based on pacing/class needs
Instructional Methods: Live lecture, case studies, discussions, Q&A, and guided review.

To receive credit, participants must:

Complete all required course components, which may include live sessions and viewing of recorded content (if unable to attend live), assigned self-study materials, and learning activities associated with each session
Engage in sufficient self-study, as this course does not replace the need for additional independent learning beyond the structured content
The post-training evaluation survey and practice quiz are provided to support learning and reflection, and is not the formal certification examination
