During this two part exploratory clay class, participants will complete one functional hanging planter approximately 10 inches round, perfect for herbs, succulents, or small plants. Beginner level- no prior clay experience required!
This is a two session workshop, please plan to attend both sessions.
During session one, participants will learn basic hand-building techniques for shaping, attaching, and texturing clay. Slabs of clay will be rolled to construct a pocket-style planter designed for wall, post, or hook. Julie will encourage exploring imprinted textures and decorative patterns using texture tools, stamps, and found objects. Participants may bring special tools or textured items for experimentation. Work will then be kiln-fired off site.
In session two, participants will glaze the planter, choosing one treatment to finish the piece. Julie will present options for glazing. Work will be fired again and returned to SMAC for pick up at a date to be announced.
All supplies, instructions, and kiln firings are included in the fee of $60.
Reserve your spot by registering online at www.smac-art.org.
