About this Event

Children and Young People Online (for Secondary School Staff):

Aim: To provide professional learners with the knowledge and understanding of the opportunities and potential harms of popular online activities for secondary aged young people. On completion of the session, learners will be able to apply their knowledge to the planning and delivery of prevention education with children and young people and/or parents and carers.

Timings: Thursday 23rd April 10:00 – 12:00

Venue: Buckinghamshire Council, Walton Street Offices, Walton St, Aylesbury HP20 1UA, Mezzanine 2. Please come to the main reception on arrival. Joe or Sara will meet you in reception to bring you to the training room.

What the session covers:

  • Key principles of effective prevention education for children and young people
  • Developmental milestones within a digital context
  • Research on the online activities children and young people enjoy
  • The Social Web Framework and how this can be used to help professionals identify potential risks of apps, sites and games
  • Further information and resources to help protect children
  • Practical strategies to support children to get the most out of being online, whilst helping to protect them.

Why is this important: Front line professionals should have a good understanding of what online activities most children and young people enjoy at different ages and stages, typical developmental milestones and how this may impact the potential opportunities and risks of these activities and ensure that these principles are embedded into their delivery of prevention education.

If you would like any more information or have any questions please contact Joe Head ([email protected]) or Sara Ladyman ([email protected]).
