Purchase your tickets today! www.trinitymiami.org/centennialOn Saturday, October 11th at 7:00 pm, our Centennial weekend continues with A Symphonic Celebration—a concert paying tribute to the Cathedral’s rich musical heritage. Music is at the heart of our community, and this evening will be centered on that gift. Enjoy a majestic performance of Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony, cherished choral classics from the Anglican tradition, and stirring organ works performed on our magnificent Skinner organ. Composers featured alongside Mozart will include Bach, Handel, Howells, Beach, and others. For this jubilant occasion, the Trinity Festival Orchestra will comprise 30 instrumentalists and the Trinity Festival Choir will bring singers together from around the region. Join us as this rousing musical program ushers us into the next century of Cathedral life.
The first half presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 in C major, “Jupiter” — a monumental work of grandeur and complexity, and a masterpiece of the Classical era that pushed symphonic boundaries toward the Romantic period. Jupiter’s significance lies in its unparalleled combination of joyful spirit and deep emotional content, culminating in a breathtakingly intricate, five-theme contrapuntal finale that demonstrates unmatched compositional genius.
An intermission will follow. After, the focus will turn to music integral to Anglican and Cathedral practice:
Eugène Gigout: Grand chœur dialogué (organ)
Ralph Vaughan Williams: The Old Hundredth Psalm Tune — congregational hymn-sing
J. S. Bach: Pièce d’Orgue (organ)
Mozart: Ave verum corpus (choir & orchestra)
J. S. Bach: Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring (choir & orchestra)
Hildegard of Bingen: medieval chant
Gabriel Fauré: “Pie Jesu” from Requiem (guest soloist)
G. F. Handel: “I know that my redeemer liveth” from Messiah (guest soloist)
